Why is the bull market struggling to explode?
Impossible to give a definite answer, but many think that the missing ingredient to activate that chemical compound called “explosive bull market” is quantitative easing.
This term denotes the secret weapon used by central banks to stimulate the market.
It is manifested by a reduction in interest rates that makes it easier for people and businesses to borrow money.
What does it mean in short? → More money in circulation 💸
The opposite macroeconomic setup is quantitative tightening, which implies raising interest rates and thus reducing the money supply globally → less money in circulation 😢
Okay, but how does it impact markets?
Usually these expansionary monetary policies generate a flood of cheap liquidity that often flows into assets considered “riskier,” particularly stocks and cryptos.
As can be seen by observing the intermediate aggregate (Global M2), which includes the amount of money in circulation and liquid assets with certain value in the future, there is little liquidity in circulation compared to past bull markets 👇
In other words: it is not investors who do not want to expose themselves to risky assets, in fact they are doing so. But they do not have the same firepower at their disposal as in the last two bull markets.
