Memecoin Supercycle Update
Memecoins, as the name suggests, are cryptocurrencies inspired by internet memes or trends. They often lack the technological sophistication of major blockchains like Bitcoin, Ethereum or Solana but gain value through their community-driven hype and viral appeal.
A memecoin supercycle is an extended period in which meme coin prices rocket higher amid a wave of frenzied speculation and hype.
2024: The Year of memecoins
In 2024, memecoins dominated the narrative in crypto, capturing significant mindshare with multiple individual memes creating generational wealth.
Despite representing less than 3% of the top 300 cryptocurrencies by market cap (excluding stablecoins), memecoins consistently accounted for 6-7% of total non-stablecoin trading volume, with recent weeks pushing that figure to nearly 11%.
This outsized volume underscores sustained interest in speculative assets, even though memecoins remain a small segment of the market.
Netflows
The netflow is an indicator that measures the net amount of a token entering or exiting wallets of all centralized exchanges as a whole. The metric’s value is calculated by simply taking the difference between the inflows and the outflows.
When the value of the netflow is positive, it means a net number of coins are moving into these wallets right now. As investors usually deposit their coins to exchanges for selling purposes, this kind of trend can prove to be bearish for the value of the token.

This metric represent the percentage of the total cryptocurrency market capitalization that is attributed to Bitcoin. A high dominance percentage suggests that investors prefer the relative stability of Bitcoin over more volatile altcoins, indicating a risk-averse environment.
The higher it goes, the more the altcoins will pump later in this cycle.
Most capital is still yet to rotate into altcoins.
BTC dominance is currently at 56%. It was closer to 40% when the cycle peaked out.
